Union, Justice, and Confidence?

The 87-year-old Edwin W. Edwards has failed to be elected to the House of Representatives 50 years after he won the first of his four terms there.

In the meantime, he has managed four terms as Governor of Louisiana, nine years in prison and two on probation.

He still managed to take this to a runoff, but he has now experienced his first ever lost election.

Is this the very end of the white New Deal Democrats in the Deep South?
