Momentum

Remember, price freezing was "Marxist", according to David Cameron, when Ed Miliband wanted to do it to energy, but it is the height of common sense now that Cameron himself wants to do it to rail fares.

We all know what would in fact be the height of common sense in both cases, and a great deal easier to do in relation to the railways than in relation to he utilities.

Miliband can and should trump Cameron immediately and obviously, by promising to bring each franchise back into public ownership as and when it came up for renewal.

Moreover, he should undertake to act against one of the great scandals of Rip-Off Britain, namely the failure, to put it mildly, of the bus companies to pass on in fare reductions the fall in the price of oil.

  1. Price freezes aren't Marxist they're just economically illiterate. Which Marxists certainly are not.

Promises of post election price freezes just mean pre election price hikes.

Unlike rail fares, energy prices are dependent on the global price of energy which national governments cant control by definition.

    1. I'd love to know what you thought that trains ran on.

It's been another bad day, hasn't it?
