First Thoughts

I am fascinated at this redefinition of victory, even if the exit poll is correct.

For it to be correct, then the Conservatives would have had to have taken seats that Labour held last time. Where, exactly? That does not ring true at all.

But even if it is, then the Coalition has lost what little majority it had, and the Conservatives have now not won an overall majority in 23 years. It will be 28 by the time that they get another chance.

How is that winning anything?

The Government claimed to have worked an economic miracle, and it was backed by the entire media, but it still couldn't win a majority.

Its two parties together haven't managed one, which they had before. Never mind the Conservatives on their own.

If Cameron, Osborne and IDS remain in office, then the Union is doomed. But I do feel for poor Boris Johnson, who had thought that he was going to be Leader. Every cloud.

There is nothing economically austere about the DUP. Cameron would have to buy them in a very literal way. Plus, they are insisting on the abolition of the Bedroom Tax throughout the United Kingdom.

Might UKIP come second in terms of votes in the North East? What if it did? At some point, who hasn't?

UKIP came second in terms of votes in the North East at last year's European Elections, taking the seat that the Conservatives had held since the introduction of Proportional Representation in 1999.

But so what? There is a very good reason why this system is not called Second Past The Post.

  1. UKIP got more votes at this General Election than the SNP and Lib Dems combined.

Yet they got one seat. The SNP got almost 60.

    Incredible.

The EU must be happy to see the true patriots of Britain denied appropriate political representation...

    1. It was a response to the exit poll, not the results.
