The Strange Death of One-Man Populism

George Galloway is out.

Nigel Farage has still never been in, and now he never will be.

Boris Johnson is just another backbench MP.

Alex Salmond is just another third-party backbench MP.

Several Lib Dems in similar vein, notably Simon Hughes, have also been removed.

And William McCrea also fits this pattern, since his tub-thumping and Gospel-singing, complete with accordion, have been supplanted by a scion of the old county elite of Ulster Unionism.

  1. Galloway wanted all working class short lists, like you do.

If the new MP for South Antrim is from the Ascendency, is he related to Chuka?

    1. I don't know. But he is Chris de Burgh's cousin.

Galloway and I agree on a lot of things. We were having a very fruitful correspondence on something until he incomprehensibly blocked me on Twitter and went silent. He is very odd. That hat?

I hope that Naz Shah is also anti-austerity, anti-war and pro-life. But I doubt that she is anything like as gifted a speaker as he is. Still, there is another side to the touch of genius, isn't there?
