The thing about populism is that it has to be popular, and 1.8 per cent of the vote is simply not that.

Any further Farage foray should be treated as reality television, and nothing to do with politics, as such, at all.

Neither Nigel Farage nor UKIP will appear in future A-level textbooks on Brexit, and possibly not even on future undergraduate courses relating to it.

Undergraduates might be told, in one sentence before moving on, that, "A breakaway party in favour of withdrawal started to attract some attention." But Sixth Formers will not even be taught that.
